Freedom of Information (West Sussex PCT)

10 June 2008

Dear Mr Kumar

In response to your Freedom of Information request, under the Medical
Performers List Regulations 2004 the list does not need to state the
status of a doctor. Only a Registrar has to be noted with their status
as such. I am assuming your request is about a partner or salaried
doctor retiring from a practice. No doctor, unless he specifies this is
writing, is automatically removed from the List when he retires from a
surgery. Therefore, the answer to both your questions is 'NIL'.

Our procedure when a doctor retires from a surgery is to ask if he
wishes to continue to carry out locum work or retire completely. He
remains on the list until an answer is received and only removed at his
written request.

A note of the number who retire during the year is not kept routinely.

I hope this is helpful. If there is anything on which you need
clarification, or if we can be of any further assistance to you, please
do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of your enquiry, you have the
right to appeal to the PCT's complaints department.

If you are still not satisfied with the outcome, you can write to:
The Information Commissioner
Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF
Telephone: 01625 545700.

Yours sincerely,
